Heading to Yas Island? A Quick Tire Check
Race weekends mean a long drive to Abu Dhabi, often at the start or end of a long day. The cars on track run tires built for racing, so do not copy their pressures or setups on the road. Your own tires only need to be in good shape for a highway drive, and a few minutes of checks beforehand is worth it.
- Set pressures cold, before you set off, to the figures on your door-jamb sticker. Use the higher 'full load' figure if you are carrying passengers and bags.
- Check the spare, or the inflator kit - many newer cars have no spare wheel.
- Look for bulges and cracks in the sidewalls before a long highway drive.
- If your tread is close to the wear bars, replace the tires before the trip rather than after.
